Last night the Tippecanoe County Board of Commissioners
approved and passed everything on the agenda for the meeting.
Before passing two small rezoning requests, the
meeting addressed a few plans for highway improvements.
The board awarded a quoted figure given by the
Mike Madrid Company for striping newly paved Lafayette roads with reflective
paint. A detour agreement was also issued for the reconstruction of
Lindberg Road.
"If you've ever been on Lindberg, you'd know why
it needs reconstruction," said County Commissioner K.D. Benson.
Even though she was too ill to attend the meeting
last night, the board appeased Superior Judge Loretta Rush in her request
for a new position. She will be troubleshooting a juvenile program that
works with schools and probation among juveniles.
"I think she will really help a lot," said Benson.
Approval for storm sewer and asphalt work was issued
to improve the county fairgrounds.
"The fairgrounds is an area that is utilized for
many activities, and it's been all gravel since 1937," said County Extension
Director Scott Rumble.
The project will replace the gravel with asphalt
and provide much needed drainage to the area.
"This has needed to be done for a long time," he
said. "We're very excited about it."
The board also passed preliminary approval of the
expansion of the jail facility in Lafayette. A public hearing will be
set up soon to discuss the issue.
The last approved item of the meeting was some
new or unfinished business. The board gave permission to the Public
Defenders Office to fill a deputy position that hadn't been filled for
the year yet.
The meeting adjourned with open public comment,
which there was none.
