Purdue should let students decide amount of classes to take in MayDo you want to take two Maymester classes? Too bad, it's against University policy. The reason for this (or so I was told) is that students typically fail if they take more than 4 credit hours during Maymester. I realize that Purdue wants us to succeed, but what gives them the right to make this decision for us? After speaking with four Purdue administrators, I was finally given special permission to take an additional class, but only because I am in good academic standing, and have a logical reason for it. "I want to" should be enough, but it's not. As a college senior, I feel that I am able to determine for myself how much responsibility I take on. Unfortunately, Purdue does not agree, or at least not during the month of May. Cheryl Reeves |
