Committees to combine, discuss community issuesBy Luis Jiménez
Purdue president Martin Jischke and West Lafayette Mayor Sonya Margerum announced Wednesday the formation of two standing committees that will work together to address common community issues. The announcement was made during WBAA radio's "AM-920 Magazine." The committees are being formed as a result of a "Town and Gown" report done by an advisory committee comprised of University and West Lafayette representatives. The committee studied issues raised by the impact of Purdue in the West Lafayette community. "Town and Gown" refers to the dynamics of a college town such as Purdue. Armyworms invade, destroy Indiana farmsTiny, dark-colored worms with a stripe down their back are marching through Indiana feeding on tall, lush grass. Armyworms have earned their name because of their tendency to move across pastures like a small army in search of food. Though they are always present in Indiana, large amounts of armyworms have been plaguing Hoosier farmers and residents for the past three weeks. The worms tend to thrive in areas where there is wheat, corn or long grass; however, they can live in residential areas if the lawn is not mowed regularly.
