services

For Purdue students, student ID card gives access
to buildings around campus and services provided by the University.
"It's convenient and it's something they have to
have," said Kris Halter, ID specialist.
Students can obtain their cards during Day on Campus
in the ID card office, located on the first floor of the Purdue Memorial
Union. The credit card-sized cards, are white with gold lettering and
feature the student's name, the student's ID number and a digital photo
of the student.
With the card, students can gain access to the
Recreational Sports Center, check out books from the library, set up
career computer accounts and purchase meals in the dining halls located
in the residence halls.
Students living in the dormitories can also gain
access with their ID cards to the dorms during late hours when all the
doors are locked.
Barb Dopperfeld, Card Services coordinator, said
many professors require a student to have an ID card when taking tests
and exams, so the professors can verify that students did in fact take
their own test.
Students can also put a Boiler Express account
on their card so they can use it as a debit card. With the debit card,
students can pay for food, use copy machines and pay for the use of
laundry facilities in the dorms.
Halter said if students have their card, they will
not need to carry any cash on campus. This is true, unless they plan
on eating or shopping off campus.
Doppelfeld said if the card is lost, students can
replace it at the cost of $20, their old card will be canceled and all
information will be transferred to the new card.
