The Campus Information Fair offers a variety of
resources for new students, there will be several different Purdue departments
and areas represented.
Beginning June 12 and ending July 6, the fair will
be open Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in room 118 of the
Purdue Memorial Union.
"Students can get a vast array of knowledge about
Purdue," said Barb Doppelfeld, card services coordinator.
Students will have the opportunity to receive information
about many of the organizations available to them, such as Convocations,
Purdue's entertainment center. Convocations bring plays, concerts and
shows to campus.
Also represented will be City Bus. City Bus is
West Lafayette and Lafayette's public transportation service. Students
may ride the busses free of charge with their student identification
card.
Athletics is another big department at Purdue.
While attending the Campus Information Fair students can find out about
the numerous ticket packages available for events, such as football,
basketball and baseball games.
Besides gathering information about transportation
and entertainment students may receive information about Boiler Gold
Rush. Boiler Gold Rush is an annual event only offered to incoming students.
Through the program, students may learn about Purdue's campus, meet
new people, move in early and take part in activities.
For those students who have aspirations in becoming
part of Purdue's large Greek population, representatives from the sororities
and fraternities around campus will also be present. Sororities and
fraternities offer many ways to become involved with the university
and it's students.
Also represented will be ROTC, a military program,
which prepares students for careers involved with the military.
Besides learning about what there is to do on campus,
students can learn about different ways to budget their money. Boiler
Express is a credit card like system, which allows students availability
to a set amount of money throughout the year that may be spent at the
dining halls and convince shops located in some of the residence halls.
In addition to obtaining campus information, students
may learn how to access Purdue information throughout the school year
with SSINFO. This is a student computer system, which allows students
access to class schedules, grades, exam schedules and many other types
of student information.
"(Students) learn a lot about the different things
that are available to them," said card services manager Wayne Hilt.
Along with student and campus information, incoming
students will have the opportunity to speak with the representatives
from some of the area's financial institutions, such as Bank One, 5/3
Bank, MBMA marketing system and the Purdue Catholic Credit Union.
Students will have the option of signing up for
checking and savings accounts at the fair.
"We help to get the right information to new students,"
Hilt said.
