Internet tools help students
track information

Student Services Information (SSINFO) and the Help
Desk are two Internet tools incoming freshmen will find essential and
complementary to their education at Purdue.
Students can visit SSINFO to check on their grades,
schedules and billing information; however, recent upgrades have bestowed
SSINFO with additional services such as online tuition payment through
direct debit as well as the possibility of buying athletic tickets online.
Lee Gordon, director of student services computing,
said SSINFO is a Web site that offers students with a single point of
web access to personal, academic and financial information Purdue has
on record of them. The Help Desk, he said, is an exhaustive directory
of important places, key contacts and valuable information within the
Purdue community.
Jeff Buchanan, TRAX communication specialist, said
SSINFO has become a vital resource for the Purdue student. He said SSINFO
lets students view their class schedule, receive important announcements
from the University and even check their Purdue e-mail account.
"There is no better resource available for the
student to check his or her academic progress and check on pertinent
personal information like correct phone number, addresses, and even
the spelling of one's name," Buchanan said.
Buchanan said that the difference between the two
Web sites is that SSINFO is about personal information regarding a particular
student while the Help Desk is loaded with information from a very broad
perspective. However, both complement to provide an almost complete
online resource.
According to Gordon, updates have been made every
six months since last year, however, he said this year might be slightly
different because there would be another version of SSINFO coming out
on November to include the new online payment capabilities.
SSINFO can be accessed through www.ssinfo.purdue.edu.
Help Desk can be accessed through www.zonehelp@purdue.edu.
