Purdue students

Students attending Purdue in the fall will find
free public transportation offered by the Citybus by simply showing
their student IDs.
"All students, faculty and staff at Purdue can
ride Citybus for free," said John Metzinger, manager of development
at Citybus.
Citybus, the local public transportation provider,
offers regular routes in Lafayette and what are called campus loop routes
on the Purdue University campus, said Metzinger.
This is the third year that Citybus has had a contract
with Purdue University to provide this free service to both students
and staff.
"We have nine separate routes on campus and they
run every 10 minutes to every half hour," said Metzinger. "They run
from early morning until late evening."
Campus and regular routes blanket Lafayette and
West Lafayette, he said, providing service to every major apartment
complex in the surrounding area as well as giving students living on
campus access to places such as Wal-Mart, movie theaters and the Tippecanoe
Mall.
Citybus also offers a Night Rider service on Friday
and Saturday.
Marty Sennett, general manager for Citybus, said
the service starts each night during the weekend at 10 p.m. and runs
until 3 a.m. running every 20 minutes, providing service from Chauncey
village to the residence halls and Tower Acres.
Metzinger said, "The students at Purdue love Citybus.
Its been very well received and our student ridership increases
every year."
Metzinger said that minor improvements would be
made to the Citybus program in order to compensate for new parking restrictions
within the next year. "The University sees public transit as a solution
to parking concerns on campus," he said. "Anyone can hop on our website
for complete information."
