YMCA offers activities for Purdue students

By Jamie Teibel
Summer Editor

The Young Men's Christian Association "builds strong kids, strong families and strong communities."

The YMCA provides activities for the entire family and individuals of all ages. "From the cradle to the grave, so to speak," said Joe Casa Santa, associate executive director at the Lafayette YMCA. He said there are activities such as swimming, youth sports, aerobics and fitness training. It also provides childcare for families that are members.

A membership costs $19 a month and is offered to anyone interested. That money, as well as program fees, funds the YMCA and help keep its doors open, said Casa Santa.

He also said all kinds of people work at the YMCA and applications are available to anyone who wants to work there.

Chris Bergin, executive director, said, "The YMCA not only provides recreation for Purdue students, but also employment and volunteer opportunities."

Bergin said the YMCA draws a lot of Purdue students as volunteer coaches, day camp counselors and childcare instructors, to mention a few of the opportunities. "You name it, we have Purdue students working it," he said The YMCA is located at 1950 S. 18th Street in Lafayette.
