"It is about being young in New York, being brave and being scared, being in love and being in trouble, viewing hope for today and faith for tomorrow." That is how the producers of the 1996 Tony Award winning show describe RENT, according to the Rent web site.
Among other shows, such as STOMP and Cabaret, RENT will be performing at Elliott Hall of Music during the 2001-2002 Purdue Convocations' season.
Purdue Convocations allows students to have that option for a price that is significantly reduced from the cost of a show playing in a major city, said Todd Wetzel, director of Purdue Convocations.
The Big Deal Card, which costs $55, allows students to see any five shows of their choice throughout the 2001-2002 season. Wetzel, said, "This is a great way for students to gain the experience of performing arts without the price barriers."

To redeem the card for a show, students should go to the box office at Elliott before the performance; they will receive the best seats still available for the show.
However, if students know in advance what shows they would like to attend, they can reserve their seats when they buy the card. Students with the card are permitted to buy two seats at a time with the card; however, the card price will only apply to those who have purchased the plan.
The seats reserved for those who buy the card are located relatively close to the stage on the main floor, or near the front of the first balcony, said Wetzel.
To increase their status as a Purdue Convocations patron and have the chance to receive better seats, students can become donors to the program.
There are other cards available for students to purchase. The prices of those cards range from $73-$88 and allow students to attend more shows.
Other activities around campus include concerts. Laura Clavio, assistant director of Purdue Convocations said, "Its too early to tell who will be playing here for next season. We dont usually find out until six weeks prior to the show."
The Student Concert Committee is responsible for planning the concerts. Callouts for this club will be at the end of August.
