One summer, when the rock and roll group Gold
Rush performed at the Taste of Tippecanoe, the temperature did not
reach much more than 40 degrees.
The band members had trouble playing their instruments
because their hands were too cold. People were walking around in winter
coats, said Linda Horton, vocalist for Gold Rush.
The Taste of Tippecanoe will be held from 4 to
midnight June 16 located at 2nd, Main and Ferry streets and the John
T. Myers pedestrian bridge. Advanced tickets for the taste are $4
for adults, $2 for children; at the gate tickets are $6 for adults,
$2 for children.
Gold Rush will be one of 18 bands featured at
the taste.
Performing early rock and roll music, Gold Rush
will be on stage from 6 to 7:40 p.m. at the corner of 3rd and Main
streets. The five-member group will perform songs such as Elvis' "All
Shook Up," Bonnie Raitt's "Rock Steady" and Heart's "Barracuda."
Another band that will be performing at this
year's taste will be Now & Then. Offering a variety of different
genres of music, Now & Then will play a mixture of country, blues,
classic rock and swing.
The group consists of six members that play either
the guitar, drums, trumpet or piano.
Now & Then performed at last year's taste,
but with the rain it was the only band that was able to complete their
set.
Sue Slaughterbeck, lead vocalist, said the band
is usually spontaneous and it tries to appeal to people of all ages.
In addition to music, the taste will also offer
food from a wide assortment of local restaurants, including Arni's,
Hunter's Pub, Red Lobster, Klein Brot Haus, Khana Khazana Indian Grill
and Porky's Barbecue.
Also available will be free rides from CityBus
on any regularly scheduled bus after 4 p.m. and a free shuttle from
the Grant Street parking garage. Passengers may purchase tickets for
the taste on the buses.
After the taste, five buses will be available
to transport people from the taste.
Advanced tickets may be purchased at the
Tippecanoe Arts Federation, Copy Print Shop, Lafayette Savings Banks,
Wells Yeager Best Pharmacy and the West Lafayette Snow Bear.
