Center verbally commits
From Staff Reports
The Purdue men's basketball team has received a
verbal commitment from Evansville Mater Dei center/forward Matt Kiefer
Thursday, according to Gold and Black Illustrated's Web site.
Kiefer, who has been sought after by the Purdue
coaching staff for months, is a 6-10 senior-to-be who led Mater Dei
to the Indiana Class 3A State Championship game last season. Last year,
Kiefer averaged 17.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.6 steals and just more
than two blocks per game. He was named a second-team all-state selection
last year by the Associated Press.
Kiefer, who maintains a 3.979 GPA, was also being
pursued by Indiana, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Connecticut and Cincinnati.
Kiefer, whose father, Howard, is a Purdue alumnus
and brother, John, is a junior at Purdue, attended coach Gene Keady's
Elite basketball camp earlier this month.
Kiefer, who is Purdue's second verbal commitment
guard David Teague verbally committed to the Boilers earlier
this summer could not be reached for comment.
