Anyone interested in gardening is invited to
spend the day learning about plants during Purdues Garden Day.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
July 7 in the Horticulture Building. Attendance is free and reservations
are not necessary.
"This is a great chance for the (Horticulture
department) to show off their gardens as well as help people learn
about new and old plants," said Rosie Lerner, horticultural specialist.
Although no plants will be sold to the public,
a series of lectures, as well as garden tours will be conducted throughout
the day. An information booth will also be among the resources available
to participants of the event.
Peggy Sellers, director of the plant and pest
diagnostic lab, will be giving a lecture on yard and garden diseases.
This is her third year conducting the lecture and she said many people
repeatedly come to Garden Day. "Many people are in attendance
each year, and some of those people come from other parts of the state,"
she said.
Sellers does not recommend bringing younger children
to the event. "Children get distracted easily; there are not
a lot of things for little kids to do," she said.
Overall, Sellers said Garden Day is "a great
opportunity to come to Purdue and gain garden information, whether
it be learning what plants a person wants to have in their own gardens,
learning the specifics of dealing with problems or arranging gardens
or landscapes," said Sellers.
People who are going to attend the event can
park for free on Marstellar Street, as well as in the parking garages.
