Purdue hosts 2003 golf championship
The NCAA has named Purdue University host of the
2003 Womens Golf Championship. The four-round, 72-hole tournament
will be played May 20-23 on the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complexs
Kampen Course.
"It is a great honor to have the NCAA select us
as host of a national championship tournament," Purdue Director of Golf
Operations Devon Brouse said. "We made a strong showing when we hosted
the NCAA Central Regional in May. Knowing how well we handled that challenge,
I have all the confidence that our well-trained Purdue staff will once
again put on another first-class event."
"This is a great opportunity for Purdue and the
greater Tippecanoe area," Purdue Athletics Director Morgan Burke said.
"The Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex will provide a fitting challenge
for the nations best intercollegiate womens golf teams.
I know (course designer) Pete and Alice Dye, along with the Bircks,
Kampens and Ackermans, will take tremendous pride in our hosting this
event. It was this core group who helped us transform the complex into
something very special."
Purdue has hosted numerous NCAA events in its history,
most notably in womens basketball. However, this will be the Universitys
first opportunity to host an NCAA championship event in any sport.
