Board approves computer science department buildingBy Kurt Esposito The Purdue Board of Trustees approved design and planning for a $20 million building to house the computer sciences department Friday. The 60,000 square-foot, multi-story building will provide classrooms, instructional and research laboratories and office space. It will consolidate a computer science department that is spread out between five buildings. Groundbreaking is expected to occur next summer. It will be located on the corner of University and Third streets across from the Armory. Villa Pizza opens in Union today, prepares for business
Villa Pizza, the newest addition to the Union's food stores, will be opening its doors at 10 a.m. today, marking the first franchise store to be brought into the Union. According to Villa Pizza's manager, Nancy Lannert, the store's preparatory phase ran smoothly. Even when football-shaped, rather than round, pizzas came out during the employee-training phase, they were seen as examples of how not to do pizza, said Lannert University increases, improves recyclingWith nearly 3,000 recycling bins and trailers located around campus, it is not a surprise that Purdue is able to recycle 1,400 tons of material on a yearly basis. This past year, Purdue recycled over 1,100 tons of paper products, five tons of steel scraps, 23 tons of hardback books and another 88 tons of confidential material. And on any given day, Purdue is responsible for recycling two and a half tons of cardboard, said Joel Zarate, refuse and recycling coordinator.
