Police arrest three on charges of theft

From Staff Reports

Purdue University police arrested three men Thursday morning in connection with the theft of lobby furniture from the Purdue Airport.

The suspects are brothers Matthew D. McCarty, 21, and Michael P. McCarty, 20, from West Lafayette. And Kevin J. Lowry, 20, of Francisville, Ind. The three suspects were arrested on charges of theft — a Class D felony. Each was released on $500 cash bond.

Capt. Ron Fosnaugh of the Purdue Police Department said the three suspects were seen at approximately 3:30 a.m. loading furniture into the back of a truck at the airport terminal. The police was called to the scene and arrested Matthew McCarty walking away from the truck heading toward Purdue Village. Lowry and McCarty were arrested after further investigation.

According to Fosnaugh, the furniture was valued at $1,200. The furniture, which consisted of two sets of chairs bolted to frames, were found next to the truck and at the McCarty's residence.

Michael McCarty is a sophomore in the School of Liberal Arts.
