Coroner identifies body as missing student
By Kurt Esposito The body recovered by authorities in a Purdue pond on Thursday evening was identified as a student missing for nearly a week. According to a press release from county coroner Martin Avolt, the body has been identified as that of Jeremy P. Francis, 22, from Flora, Ind. It was spotted, by authorities using a helicopter, floating in five feet of water on a pond located northwest of the Walter Wade Utility Plant and southeast of Lynn Hall of Veterinary Medicine. On that side of the water there is nearly a 40-foot steep dropoff from ground level. Francis had been missing since the early morning hours of July 13. Court agrees with University's decision in Corpus playA U.S. district court judge ruled Friday that the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) production of "Corpus Christi" is not unconstitutional and therefore shall have the right to be staged. Twenty-one state lawmakers and 11 Allen County residents sued IPFW and Purdue's Board of Trustees in order to obtain an injunction to bar the play from being staged with taxpayer money. The play features a homosexual character whose life mirrors that of Christ. Purdue seeks to dismiss case vs. student's parents
Today in court Purdue is seeking to dismiss the case against it brought on by the parents of a slain residence hall counselor. The parents of Jay Severson who was killed while serving as a counselor in 1996 are suing the University, the Board of Trustees, several Purdue administrators, Purdue police department employees and officers, and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's department. They are seeking unspecified damages for the wrongful death of their son. |
