Purdue announces new vice provost
By Anna Herkamp Purdue has recently announced a new position that will intensify the already existing outreach programs of the University. Provost Sally Frost Mason announced Friday that the new vice provost for engagement position will help Purdue's programs become better known throughout the state. The new vice provost, Don Gentry, will step down from his 14 year position as Dean of the School of Technology and resume the position that he said he is "really excited" about. The position will be effective Aug. 1. In a press release, Frost Mason said Gentry will work with various aspects of Indiana to expand state opportunities by working with governmental leaders and businesses as well as community members to emphasize Purdue's role as an educational leader. Lindberg construction startsSigns are posted to warn drivers that, beginning today, Lindberg Road is partially closed. Dan Marvin, West Lafayette Police chief, said the police will be out to make sure the signs, which were put up by the construction crews, remain posted. Marvin said there shouldn't be any problems regarding signage; the construction crews are just as concerned about providing safety as the police are. Alcohol factors in deathThe results of the autopsy of a Fairland man killed in a plane crash outside of West Lafayette revealed that the pilot had a blood alcohol content more than four times the legal limit to drive a vehicle. County coroner Martin Avolt listed the cause of death of Charles Glackman, 31, as multiple burns and sharp force injuries caused by accident. |
