Coroner's report not coming any time soon

Autopsy results for a murdered Purdue student and her sister may not be released for two weeks, according to the Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office.

A spokesperson for the coroner said Monday that the official findings and cause of death for Yeunkyung Woo, 31, a Purdue doctoral student in biological sciences, and her sister, Huo Kwung Woo, 29, of Chicago, would not be available any time soon. Late last week, several other news organizations reported that the autopsy results would be available Monday; however, the spokesperson at the coroner's office said that wasn't accurate. County coroner Martin Avolt was not available for comment.

The coroner's office spokesperson said they could not elaborate on the original statement that the two sisters died of apparent "traumatic injuries," which was released late last week.

According to Joe Bennett, Purdue vice president for University relations, investigators are following up on some leads hoping to find out who is responsible for the sisters' deaths.

"I know (the police) have been pursuing some leads and I'm hoping we might have something a little more substantive," Bennett said. "But, I just don't know for sure yet how it's going to go."

According to reports, Woo and her sister were found dead in Woo's campus apartment in the Purdue Village at 10:20 a.m. Friday. The sisters, who police officials said were found fully clothed in separate rooms, were believed to have been murdered something Thursday evening.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry into Woo's apartment. Woo was found in the living room of the apartment and her sister, who was visiting from Chicago, was found in the bedroom.

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department, the Lafayette Police Department, the Indiana State Police and the FBI are assisting Purdue Police in the investigation.

Police are still looking for any witnesses who may have seen the sisters alive or know of the whereabouts of them anytime after 5 p.m. Thursday. Anyone with information about the case should call the Purdue Police Department at 494-8221.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
