Police seek help in search

Purdue Police think
someone may have picked up the hammer reportedly used to beat two South
Korean sisters killed on campus earlier this month and are asking for
help in locating the weapon.
Zhan Yin, 27, a
Chinese graduate student in biology and suspected killer, told police
the weapon he reportedly used to beat Yeunkyung Woo, 31, a fellow graduate
student in biology, and her sister, Hyo Kyung Woo, 29, of Chicago, on
Aug. 2 was in the Wabash River.
According to the
affidavit filed in the Tippecanoe County Superior Court, Yin beat the
Woo sisters with a hammer and stabbed each in the throat with a kitchen
knife. He later reportedly threw his clothes and hammer into the Wabash
River.
Local police conducted
a search of the Wabash using divers and bloodhound dogs but could not
locate the hammer.
Purdue Capt. Steven
Dietrich said police searched the river and the area surrounding Yeunkyung's
Purdue Village apartment, 151 Arnold Drive, Apt. 9, but couldn't find
the hammer.
"It's not where
we thought it was or we would have found it," Dietrich said.
He said the police
think someone may have picked it up. "The two areas we've looked previously
we haven't been able to come up with it," said Dietrich.
He said the police
aren't asking people to actively search for the hammer but rather to
help if they know where it is. "This is not a plea to have 10,000 people
on the banks of the Wabash," he said "If someone knew where it was or
picked it up, we're asking they turn it in."
Dietrich said there
is no reward for turning in the hammer other than doing a public service.

should contact Purdue Police immediately at 494-8221.
