Lack of revenue leads to tuition increase
Because of a lack of incoming state revenues, higher education institutions are being forced to make cutbacks within school budgets. As one institution facing economic challenges, Purdue has enforced a tuition increase of 7.5 percent, the highest in nine years, for all students. In an effort to minimize the impact, Purdue officials did some internal budget cutting and reallocated University funds.
Wabash Landing garage opensBy Heather Mangold West Lafayette officials gathered in Wabash Landing Tuesday to celebrate the grand opening of the project's newest completion the parking garage. West Lafayette mayor Sonya Margerum and Herman Renfro, the project's developer, cut the ribbon together. "It's a milestone in the development of Wabash Landing," said Renfro. The new 6 and 1/2-story parking garage, which will hold some 680 cars, supports the new retail stores, apartments and the soon-to-be hotel within Wabash Landing. One hundred four spots will be set aside for hotel parkers.
Final draft of plan nears completion by task forceBy Laura Pelner The task force committed to working on the University's strategic plan met almost on a weekly basis this summer and is on track to present the finished document to the Board of Trustees in November. Rabindra Mukerjea, the director of strategic planning, said the process is going well. "We're currently working through to compile the whole document," said Mukerjea. "We're working quite extensively in the area of metrics, the measurements by which you know you're making progress in relation to all the goals and strategies." |
