School of Pharmacy loses former dean
Wednesday was a sad day in the world of pharmacy, at least according to the dean of Purdue's School of Pharmacy and Pharmacal Sciences. Dean Charles Rutledge said the field and Purdue lost someone very special. Varro Tyler, former dean of the School of Pharmacy and executive vice president for academic affairs, died early Wednesday morning at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lafayette. Tyler was 74 years old. Rutledge knew Tyler well and said his death was very sudden. "I think his passing was quite a shock to everybody," he said.
Garage parking spaces may go to those on waiting list
Melissa White is planning on sleeping in. White, a senior in the School of Liberal Arts, said she and her roommate woke up an hour early on the first day of school so they could find a parking spot. "When we got there every spot was open," said White. "It was a complete shock." White said she estimates that three-fourths of the student spaces in the Grant Street Parking Garage are empty when she leaves the garage at 1:30 in the afternoon.
Bridge honors ex-governorGov. Frank O'Bannon joined city officials, state representatives and approximately 30 members of the community on Wednesday to dedicate the U.S. 231 bridge in honor of former governor Roger Branigin. "He (Branigin) had that great intellect that was complemented by great wit," said O'Bannon. "He brought a lot of people together in the state of Indiana." |
