The annual Activities Bonanza presented by the
Purdue Student Union Board will take over the area between the Purdue
Memorial Union and Stewart Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
"The bonanza is a time for student organizations
on campus to promote themselves," said Heather Owen, PSUB program director.
"It brings people to (the organizations) and gives them the opportunity
to reach out to students and also get contact information."
At the bonanza, students can find out about a variety
of organizations on campus. Information on 150 student organizations
will be available and there will also be information about the groups'
callouts.
The bonanza gives the organization and the students
a chance to meet one on one, said Owen.
Students can get information about the organizations
before the callout to see if they are interested, she said.
"They are all together at one place at one time,"
said Owen. "There will be lots of people, lots of tables and lots of
activities."
She said the bonanza is also convenient for students
because they can stop by between classes and look around and see more
than one organization at once.
All clubs on campus were invited to participate
in the event, but there is only space for 150 tables, so student organizations
were accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
A $10 fee was required from the organizations to
offset the cost of the tables and chairs and advertising, said Owen.
PSUB sponsors the bonanza as a service to the students
and the organization, but the board also take advantage of the event
and set up a table to promote itself and get students involved in the
organization.
In addition to the information that will be available
at the tables, there will also be a stage set up for demonstrations
from the student organizations, said Owen.
For example, the ballroom dancing club will be
one organization doing a demonstration.
These presentations are another way students can
get an idea of what various clubs are about. When the stage is free,
organizations that hadn't planned on doing a demonstration can get up
and give one, said Owen.
While passing through, students can also take advantage
of the free giveaways, including the popular Good-Stuff Buckets, which
have been given out for the past few years.
If the weather doesn't cooperate and the clouds
break open, the bonanza will move into the ballrooms of the Union.
