Foxworthy to perform at Elliott Hall of Music

Purdue Convocations has already sold more than two thousand tickets for the Blue Collar Comedy Tour featuring comedians Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall, and organizers are hoping for a full house for the 8 p.m., Sept. 14 show in the Elliott Hall of Music.

"It's just a block-buster tour," said Larry Sommers, marketing director for Purdue Convocations. "It was kind of a coup for us to get it. It's a very popular tour; it sold out the Verizon Wireless Music Center."

The tour, which is the 38th most popular ticket in the nation, according to industry magazine Pollstar, also showcases the talents of comedians Ron White and Dan Whitney, aka "Larry, the Cable Guy."

This show is the only Indiana stop left on the tour.

Foxworthy, best known for his "You might be a redneck if…" routine, is the largest selling comedy artist in history, having sold more than 13 million units. He's written more than 10 best-selling books and "The Jeff Foxworthy Show" aired for two years on television.

Convos' assistant director, Laura Clavio, said "I think it's just going to be a great show.

Charlie Harrigan, program director for WKOA-FM K105, which is the media sponsor for the show, said the station will give away tickets to promote the show during the upcoming weeks.

Harrigan said that sponsoring the show was a natural fit for his station, which airs the nationally syndicated "Foxworthy Countdown" on Sundays from 6 to 9 p.m. During the broadcast Foxworthy plays the Top 20 country hits and interviews country music stars.

"He's pretty family-oriented; it's PG-rated humor," Harrigan said. "Anyone in the family could be there, as long as they understand what's going on in the world, and they're not going to be offended.

"The subject matter that these guys take on is day-to-day living and that's that same lifestyle that country music lyrics are all about." Tickets for the Purdue show are $37.50 and can be purchased at Purdue Box Office or charged by phone at 494-3933 or through Ticketmaster
