Subtle messages need careful consideration

I was very surprised to notice a clear, but perhaps unintentional anti-minority bias in the political cartoon in Wednesday's Exponent. The small boy pictured gives the obvious impression that minority students and schools comprised of primarily these students will not be able to measure up to stringent academic standards. This infers the offensive notion that minority students are somehow weaker, lazier, or less intelligent than others. Personally, I find these implications unacceptable and I suggest we should all give more careful consideration to the content of the subtle and not so subtle messages we send each other every day. Our freedom is based on the idea that all are created equal.
