Swim team earns 11th-highest GPA

The Purdue women's swimming and diving team has been recognized for having the 11th-best team grade point average in the nation by the College Swim Coaches' Association of America.

"I'm really proud of the women because at Purdue we strive for a balance between academics, athletics and campus life," said Cathy Wright-Eger, Purdue's women's swimming coach.

In addition to the team accolade, seven individuals were also honored for their individual efforts in the classroom. Fifth-year senior Gyongyver Lakos, along with juniors Lisa Dolansky, Patricia Finnerty and Lindsay Lange, were named Academic All-America, while 2001 graduate Missy Bromley and junior Kim Paradeise and sophomore Autumn Sample were named Academic All-America honorable mention.

Lakos, an interior design major and native of Budapest, Hungary, has a 3.50 GPA and will graduate in May 2002. She finished her career at Purdue with varsity records in the 100 and 200 freestyle, as well as records as the anchor of the 200 and 400 medley relays and 200 and 400 free relays. Lakos also swam as a member of the Hungarian Olympic teams in both 1996 and 2000.

Dolansky is a pre-physical therapy major from Rahway, N.J., and carries a 3.87 GPA. She owns Purdue varsity records in the 100 backstroke, the 200 and 400 medley relays, as well as the 400 freestyle relay.

Finnerty has a 3.68 GPA as a management major. She is a member of the varsity record-holding relay team in the 400 medley relay and finished with lifetime bests in the 100 and 200 fly at the 2001 Big Ten Championships.

Lange, a communication major with a 3.76 GPA, holds Purdue varsity records in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 and 400 medley relays.

Paradeise, a civil engineering major with a 3.77 GPA, is a member of the varsity record-holding 400 free relay team.

Sample, a public relations major, has a 3.71 GPA. She finished 17th in the 400 individual medley and 11th in the 200 fly at the 2001 Big Ten Championships.

Bromley, a secondary education and French concentration major, finished her Purdue career with a 3.55 GPA. She holds Purdue varsity records as a member of the 200 medley, 200 free and 400 free relays.
