Purdue students and faculty will be able to sample
the best food the Union has to offer for free at the Taste of PMU on
the front lawn of the Purdue Memorial Union today from 2 to 4 p.m.
The event, which is in its sixth year, will give
students and faculty the opportunity to try food and beverage samples
from the eateries in the Union. It also gives the Union an opportunity
to showcase two new restaurants Freshens, which specializes in
making smoothies, and Villa Pizza.
The Taste of PMU is designed to give everyone who
goes through it a better idea of the dining services offered in the
Union.
"The Taste is a great opportunity for people
to taste the various foods that the restaurants offer in the Union,"
said Elaine McVay, director of marketing for the Union. "Also,
it is a fun way to celebrate the coming of the first week of a new school
year."
The Taste of PMU is traditionally the biggest event
of the year for Union businesses, according to Gary Goldberg, director
of dining services at the Union.
"Even though we give away a lot of food, it
is still our biggest day in sales," Goldberg said. "It's set
right between lunch and dinner and we give away coupons that can be
redeemed in the Union restaurants."
Students will be given the opportunity to sample
food from one of the Union's oldest establishments, Pappy's the Original
Sweet Shop.
"Every one of our units will have free samples
of mini-burgers and Purdue ice cream," said Art Anderson, manager of
Pappy's. "We are very excited about the coming of this event because
it annually marks our biggest day in sales of the year and also helps
to showcase the various products that we offer."
Students will also be able to sample Krispy Kreme
doughnuts, Vienna hot dogs, Otis Spunkmeyer cookies, Asian Cuisine from
the Union Market Food Court, iced lattes from the Oasis Café
and a Caribbean flavored "concept of the future."
Those attending the Taste of PMU will be asked
to show their Purdue identification card in order to receive the samples.
