Researchers test new diabetes pill

Diabetics may see an improvement in their quality of life thanks to a drug delivery system developed by Purdue researchers that could put insulin in a pill form.

"Proteins degrade by our saliva and stomach acids," said Nikolaos Peppas, professor of Chemical Engineering.

Because of this, proteins traditionally couldn't be delivered to the body orally. Rather, they had to be administered via injection, as diabetics usually do with insulin.

Study reveals increases in van rollovers

In recent years, there's been an increase in reports of rollover accidents regarding 12- and 15-passenger vans.

Although Purdue has not had any accidents with its fleet of passenger vans, a study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows these vehicles are more prone to rollovers as the number of passengers increases.

On April 9, the safety administration issued a "Consumer Advisory" to notify the users of 12- and 15-passenger vans of possible rollover dangers.

Béla Fleck and the Flecktones to play at Purdue in September

To say that banjo player Béla Fleck has transcended musical genres might be an understatement.

Béla Fleck has been nominated for Grammy Awards in bluegrass, Christian, composition, country, jazz, spoken word and world music categories. At 8 p.m. on Friday, September 28, in Loeb Playhouse Béla Fleck and his band, the Flecktones, will perform at Purdue.

September's performance will be the first time the Flecktones have performed at Purdue, but it isn't the first time Béla Fleck has been to Purdue.

Web site aids search for missing attorney

A Web site designed to help friends and family of John W. Barce, a Benton County attorney, has already received over 1,000 hits since Friday.

Barce's family set up a Web site last week at www.findjohnbarce.com, which includes photos and information about the missing man. A reward of $50,000 has also been designated to anyone who can provide information about his whereabouts.
