Storm sparks power outage, smoke alarms
By Dave Stephens Purdue students sitting in class Thursday afternoon might have noticed the lights dim, or even go all the way out. No the students were not falling asleep, the power had gone out. The power went out across most of Purdue's campus Thursday afternoon, after lighting hit an electric company substation at 4:06 p.m.
Parking situation to improveThe University's new "C" parking permit system, which has vastly improved the parking situation in University garages, has actually created a new problem for those who park in remote surface lots. These lots, like the one north of Ross-Ade Stadium, are filling to capacity each day and leaving many permit-holders without a space. "A lot of cars are diverted from the garages with the new permit program," said Mike Jasper, parking facilities manager.
Doormen at local bars work to spot fake IDsDerrick Raymer has checked hundreds of thousands of IDs in the four years that he has been a doorman at different campus bars. Most of the time the IDs are valid, but Raymer, a May graduate, remembers one particular time when one was not. A woman gave him an ID that he took away because he suspected it wasnt hers. That same night, a second woman, dressed in the same clothes as the first woman, showed up, asking for the confiscated ID. |
