Things have really fallen into place for local
musician Michael Kelsey.
The popular local guitarist will release his third
album, "Falling Into Place," at a concert this weekend in
Lafayette.
"I think that its really important to
stay true to what you really want," Kelsey said. "I didnt
get in this for the money. I want to be the best musician I can be.
I think when youre doing what you really love, things will just
fall into place."
Known for his exciting live concerts full of improvisation
and soulful sound, Kelsey has become a favorite at many local venues
including the Java Roaster in downtown Lafayette.
Stacy Hopwood, who books talent for the coffee
house, raved about Kelseys music and his live performances.
"He packs the house every time," Hopwood
said. "You have to see him to believe what he can do with a guitar
in his hand."
Kelseys music, which he describes as "progressive/aggressive
acoustic guitar," intrigues fans every time. During his live performances,
he uses whatever is within his reach, such as walls, pipes, bottles,
spoons and glasses, to create his own distinct sound.
"Hes an inventive musician," Hopwood
said. "Everyone in town wants to hear him play."
Although he has performed for audiences in more
than 30 states and has opened for groups like Dishwalla, Tim Reynolds
and the Bodeans, he still loves coming back to his hometown fans.
"I like playing for local audiences because
everybody I have grown up with is here," Kelsey said. "Every
time I play I want to offer something to my audience."
The CD release performance will be at 8 tonight
at Duncan Hall in downtown Lafayette. Tickets are $10 and are available
at the Java Roaster and McGuire Music and Sound. Doors will open at
7 p.m.
Kelseys new CD is on sale locally at Barnes
and Noble, CD Land, Java Roaster and Vons.
