Season tickets remain available

The only way students who want to see Purdue play Notre Dame at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Ross-Ade Stadium can do so is if they purchase season tickets.

Roughly 500 season tickets remain reserved for students. Fans who bought season tickets in 2000 still can renew season tickets at www.purduesports.com by clicking on "Tickets" on the left side of the page.

Season tickets for Purdue's six home games are $72 for students, $154 for Purdue faculty or staff and $192 for the public.

Beginning today, members of the John Purdue Club can buy tickets to Saturday's game. Officials chose to open up sales to the 9,000-member organization that provides funds for all athletic scholarships and academic services for Purdue student-athletes.

"Since we closed off sales to John Purdue Club members in early August we have fielded a steady stream of requests for tickets," ticket manager George Ade said in a press release. "Based on our calculations, we can save tickets for the students and also make tickets available for club members."

John Purdue Club members can call (765) 494-3194 or (800) 49-SPORT to order tickets or stop by the Athletic Ticket Office in the Intercollegiate Athletic Facility on North University Drive. The ticket office is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Poll position

Although the Boilers didn't play this weekend, they still managed to move up in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll.

The Boilers were ranked No. 25 before they beat Cincinnati 19-14 Sept. 2. They are now No. 24, one spot behind Notre Dame, which dropped from No. 17 to No. 23 after a 27-10 loss at Nebraska.

In the Associated Press Poll, Purdue is No. 26 — 31 votes behind No. 25 Louisville.

Pro players

As the NFL began its season Sunday, there were five Purdue players from last year's Boilermakers in uniform — Drew Brees and Brandon Gorin of the San Diego Chargers, Matt Light of the New England Patriots, Chukky Okobi of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Vinny Sutherland of the San Francisco 49ers.

Sutherland, who was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the fifth round of the NFL Draft in April, signed a free-agent deal with San Francisco after being released by Atlanta in late August.

Offensive guard Ian Allen, who signed a free-agent deal with Kansas City after the NFL Draft, did not make the final roster for the Chiefs.
