Ceremony to honor memory
of students
From Staff
and University Reports
A ceremony to honor Purdue students who died during
the summer semester is set for 9:30 p.m. tonight at the base of the
bell tower.
The Golden Taps ceremony will honor the memories
of eight Purdue students. Families and friends of the students are invited
to attend.
The ceremony will begin with drummers and buglers
from the Purdue bands. Band members will walk from Elliott Hall of Music
to the bell tower, where memorial cards with each student's name will
be placed.
The bell in the bell tower will toll once for each
student. After the last ring there will be a few moments of silence
for personal reflection. The band will then play "Echo Taps" and the
"Purdue Hymn." The Boilermaker Special will stand nearby in silent tribute.
The students to be honored are:
- Ryan David West, a senior in the School of
Liberal Arts from Newburgh, Ind.
- Benjamin Summers, a junior in the School of
Management from Lowell, Ind.
- Jeremy Francis, a senior in the School of Consumer
and Family Sciences from Bringhurst, Ind.
- Katie Ann Burkhart, a student in the department
of health sciences from Fort Wayne, Ind.
- Ross Edward Eiler, a freshman in the Schools
of Engineering from Lawrenceburg, Ind.
- Tracy Lynn Rose, a student in the department
of organizational leadership and supervision from Lafayette, Ind.
- John D. Woods, a senior in the School of Consumer
and Family Sciences from Indianapolis.
- Yeunkyung Woo, a doctoral student in biological
sciences from Seoul, South Korea. Woo's sister, Hyo Kyung Woo, of
Chicago, will also be recognized.
The ceremony will last for approximately 15 minutes.
Anyone who wishes to attend can do so.
