The Student Senate will vote on a budget tomorrow
night that would provide funds for the entire academic year.
The student government senate meeting will be at
7 p.m. Wednesday in Stewart Center, Room 202.
The proposed budget for the entire year is $92,000,
which will be divided between operating expenses and programming. Matt
Morgan, PSG treasurer, said roughly $56,000 of it would go to programming
which covers the costs of various events for the year, including
a proposed concert and a speaker next semester.
A change under the new PSG constitution allows
the senate to approve the event and not how the money for the event
will be spent as it was done previously. The programming board will
now decide how the money will be spent on each event. Morgan said it
will make the process much easier.
Sean Cowley, president pro tempore, said he expects
the budget to be passed.
"For the most part everyone is pretty happy with
it," he said.
The senators will also discuss and vote on changes
to the by-laws that would allow for an election secretary to serve out
of the Student Court. Cowley said the secretary would watch over the
elections, audit petitions and make sure all election rules are being
followed.
The proposed changes would allow the election secretary
to set additional rules if needed.
The Student Senate meeting will also feature two
speakers Linda Mason, University Senate chairperson, who will
discuss PSG's role with University Senate; and Ryan Hatton, a senior
in the School of Management and student member of the strategic planning
board, who will discuss the strategic plan for the University.
