Wouldn't it be nice to be the CEO of a company?
Work with successful, famous individuals and represent a group of people
who strive to do good deeds for society?
Many people hope to be this fortunate, but few
actually succeed. Purdue's School of Management has educated people
of this successful nature and a select few of them are speaking to the
Purdue community.
Throughout the first semester of each year, the
School of Management hosts a series of lectures from people in a variety
of top management positions around the United States. Known as the Krannert
Executive Forum, these presentations include an aspect of business that
encompasses each speaker's particular company.
As explained by Tim Newton, director of external
relations and communications at the school, Krannert Executive Forum
was started as a way to "expose students to top businesspeople in a
variety of different positions."
These executives come from many backgrounds and
areas of expertise. Kevin Sullivan, vice president of NBC Sports, will
be speaking on Friday regarding the way corporate companies deal with
the media. After graduating from Purdue with a management degree, Sullivan
earned his way to becoming a public relations executive for the Dallas
Mavericks before he joined NBC Sports and became one of the company's
top spokespeople.
On Sept. 21, Patrick Bousquet-Chavanne, president
of Estee Lauder International, will be speaking about "Powering Global
Brands." Also a School of Management graduate, Bousquet-Chavanne is
in charge of three major areas of the international division for the
company.
Included in this year's group of speakers is the
winner of the Woman Advocate of the Year award for Small Business Administration,
the director of global strategy and marketing information technology
at Eli Lilly and Co. and the senior vice president for Citigroup's consumer
division.
Krannert's Executive Forum began in 1973 as an
undergraduate course Management 401 for management majors.
The class, which is still a management elective option, consists of
approximately 130 students who are required to attend each lecture and
perform different functions in order to build points toward their grade.
Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend
the lectures from 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. on each assigned Friday in
the Krannert Building Auditorium.
