Country must continue normal livesThe more I think about it in classes, the more astounded by the events of these past few days. I study history, and today I saw the world change. That's not something a historian ever expects to see happen in their lifetime, and I'm left pondering just how the world has changed. For the first time in 60 years we have been attacked. For the first time in 189 years we've been attacked on our own home soil. For the first time in 60 years our citizens have been subjected to an atrocity on a scale few can comprehend. The American people have long harbored a belief of invincibility. The American people have long felt that our shores are free from attack. Today we were proved wrong, and today our world changed. Our lives have been disrupted, our brother and sister Americans have been murdered, our future is full of doubt. The world today does look quite bleak. As I walked the halls and yards of the University campus today I heard not just talk of fear, but of anger ... and more importantly, of resolution. We know our place. We believe in what our country stands for. We will fight back. We will fight back by not doing the very thing these cowards hope us to do. We will continue our lives. We will not let this attack make us live in our homes in fear. We will not let this attack wreck our prosperity. Though it is a grievous blow, every day from henceforth that every American goes to work, that every American lives their life as they see fit is a victory against these cowards. All these cowards have done is given resolution and determination to my fellow Americans, and they have woken the sleeping giant. Wright Frazier Junior, School of Liberal Arts |
