Attacks do not deserve cheersIn light of the tragic events that have gripped our great nation, and the Purdue community at large, in what seem to be some of the darkest hours ever seen in American history, people on this campus feel it is amusing or even cool to get caught up in all the hype. Wednesday, several students were wearing shirts that read, "This is just the beginning." As Americans who just had our own country terrorized, of which thousands perished, what are we supposed to think? Is this a threat? I spoke with a student who had a class where the professor was speaking about the vicious acts of violence that occurred on Tuesday. As the professor was speaking, students in the back of the room began laughing and cheering. Since when did terrorism and having magnificent skyscrapers come crashing back into the earth become a laughing matter or something to cheer about? The bomb threats that have been happening all over the country as well as here at Purdue can accomplish nothing other than racial bigotry. What happened on Tuesday was nothing other than an act of war against the United States and I feel we should treat it as such. When students act as if they have no sense at all it only adds fuel to the fire. Louis Schultz Senior, School of Liberal Arts |
Americans need to unite in time of need Past makes nation target for terror Games should continue despite attack America will rebound after tragedy Nation must pray for peace, calm Country must continue normal lives Celebration in America seems ironic Teachers should speak with caution Campus needs to display more flags American media shelters citizensAmericans must carry on, live livesCancellations should follow tragedy
