Americans must carry on, live lives

As the new day arrives, we are all still watching and waiting. We've seen images of horrific acts of terror and, at the same time, selfless acts of heroism by the people of America. Most of the nation doesn't truly understand the magnitude of this tragedy. We have been waiting, just trying to catch a glimpse of information between classes or work. We are somewhat removed from most of this, thus life here has not changed too much. We didn't feel the rumble of the buildings collapsing or see the dust covering the ground like a snow storm, nor did we hear the screams from people who were jumping out of the collapsing buildings. Those are images and sounds that will never be forgotten. We cannot allow these events to disrupt the lives of the American people. No one will ever forget that plane colliding with the second tower of the World Trade Center. But,we can learn something from these events. In the midst of all this pain, there was heroism. We came together across the nation. Blood donation requests were filled by people who waited for five hours to donate. We have carried on while demonstrating unity and strength, but we will never forget. How could we forget? "It is said that the future is always born in pain. The history of war is the history of pain. If we are wise, what is born of that pain matures into the promise of a better world, because we learn that we can no longer afford the mistakes of the past. Without the hope that things will get better, that our inheritors will know a world that is fuller and richer than our own, life is pointless, and evolution is vastly overrated." — JMS
