Lafayette man dies after
being pulled from river
A Lafayette man died Sunday
afternoon after being pulled from the Wabash River near the North Ninth
Street bridge.
At 4:41 p.m., Tippecanoe
County Police responded to a 911 call advising of someone in the river
yelling for help. A witness pulled Michael J. Ryves, 45, of 913 King
St., Lafayette, from the river and administered CPR until officers arrived
on the scene.
Ryves was taken to St. Elizabeth
Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
The police said several witnesses
determined that Ryves had fallen off the bridge located near Battle
Ground, Ind., north of Lafayette, and landed in the river. According
to police reports, Ryves was swept about 100 yards downstream before
being pulled out of the water.
The coroner's office is investigating
the cause of Ryves death.
