New associate provost enjoys job

By Kelsey VanArsdall
Staff Writer

While she has only held the position for about a month, Christine Ladisch is already enjoying her newfound responsibilities as associate provost.

"It has been a great experience so far, and everyone has been helpful," said Ladisch. "I really feel at home and everyone here has a great 'can do' spirit in bringing Purdue to an exciting new level."

Ladisch was appointed the position on Aug. 15th, but she has been a part of the Purdue faculty since 1979.

"After teaching for several years and then holding a department head position (in the School of Consumer and Family Sciences), I knew a lot about this University and what it has to offer," said Ladisch. "But already, in the few weeks I have been here, I am learning about a whole new and exciting part of Purdue that I knew existed, but not to this extent."

It will be Ladisch's job to oversee student learning outcomes' assessment and review and update academic material in various University publications. She will also serve as a liaison for several committees like the University Assessment Council, the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, the Excellence 21 Steering Committee and the Council of Academic Officers.

Ladisch will be working closely with provost Sally Frost Mason, who said she is excited to have Ladisch join the team.

"I feel extremely fortunate to have enticed [Ladisch] to our team. She has a tremendous knowledge of this institution and is respected by all. She has great enthusiasm and a great sense of humor," said Mason.

For 12 years prior to Ladischs' appointment, Carolyn Jones held the associate provost position.

"I think Christine is going to be wonderful; she has been put in the position to excel. Christine is a spectacular person; her talent is easy to recognize," said Jones

Even with the new position, Ladisch will still be involved heavily with the consumer sciences and retailing department, and hopes to teach a class in the spring.

"It is that connection with the students that I really value," said Ladisch. "While I love this job, I don't want to lose the endless benefits that come with communicating with students."

Because she has taken the new position of associate provost, the department of consumer sciences and retailing is looking for a new department head.

The department will not only be looking for the replacement with in the already existing Purdue faculty, but they are also conducting a nationwide search.
