Purdue should have canceled classesI agree with the letter written by Mr. DeBoni, Mr. Bonser and Mr. Brunner. I was disappointed and offended that classes were held on Tuesday after the attack, as well as Friday, which was designated a national day of mourning and remembrance. Trying to deal with the complete shock, anger and sadness of that day, while sitting in class (as if nothing had happened), did not make this ordeal any easier for myself and many other people I know. I understand that we must show the world that terrorism will not halt our activities out of fear; however, this was not an issue of fear. Humans need time to comprehend and adjust after such a horrible, traumatic experience and the school did not provide this for their students. The Friday service at Elliott Hall was beautiful and moving; I would like to thank all those involved in organizing and running the event. I am simply saddened that the administration did not recognize the need for time to grieve and reflect. Kathryn Gorman Graduate Student |
