Basketball teams to hold preview

By Purdue Sports Information

Although both of the Purdue basketball teams begin practice Saturday, fans won't be allowed to check out the teams until the "Boilermaker Hoops Sneak Preview" Wednesday in Mackey Arena.

Men’s coach Gene Keady and women’s coach Kristy Curry are excited about the event, which will take the place of "Mackey Magic," traditionally held on the eve of the first day of official practice.

"In the past, we’ve always been lucky that our first day of practice coincided with a home football game," Keady said. "We hope that moving it to a weeknight and earlier in the evening will bring more fans out."

"This is a great opportunity for the fans to come and see what our teams are all about," Curry said. "We’re looking forward to getting out there and having some fun."

During the event, which begins at 7 p.m., Curry and Keady will address the audience and answer questions from the crowd.

Women’s basketball players will compete in a 3-point shooting contest with four fans. A dunk contest between members of the men’s team will follow.

At approximately 7:40 p.m., the women will scrimmage. Ten minutes later, the men will scrimmage.

Last season the women's basketball team was national runner-up, went 31-7 and won the Big Ten regular season championship.

The Purdue men's team is coming off of a 17-15 season in which they failed to qualify for the NCAA tournament for the first time in eight seasons.
