Williams' works

The late Tennessee Williams might have blushed
if he had seen "The Glass Mendacity."
The play is a parody of three of his most well-known
works, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "The
Glass Menagerie."
Jeff Casazza of the Indianapolis Repertory Theatre
returns to Purdue to direct the play's production.
Tonight is opening night for the play, which will
be at 8 at the Black Box Theatre located in the Creative Arts Building
3.
"It's an all-out comedy," said Casazza. "It's a
parody of Tennessee Williams that pokes fun at him and his characters."
Tiffany Smith, who worked with Casazza this past
month on the play, admits that the play is rich in G-rated humor.
"I think it's hilarious, cute humor," said Smith,
a junior in the School of Liberal Arts.
Purdue Theatre marketing director Lori Sparger
said that she had heard the same thing, although she has not yet seen
the play herself.
"People said it was uproariously funny. People
were doubled over in laughter from what I heard," said Sparger.
This is Casazza's second time directing at Purdue.
Last year he directed "Slow Dance on the Killing Ground," which was
also held in Creative Arts 3.
"The two plays are totally different," said Casazza.
"But both have a lot of theatricality."
According to Casazza, the project was an easy one
to accept when it was offered to him. He'd helped in the direction of
"The Glass Menagerie" when it was performed at the Indianapolis Repertory
Theatre.
"It's been fun to work on this play," said Casazza.
Smith hopes all the pieces will fall into place
for tonight's performance.
"Hopefully, it will go really well," Smith said.
