Farmers play important role in human existence

I am writing in response to the October 10, 11 and 12 issue of the Exponent where the "Getto Wayfare" comic strip attempted to mock producers, or farmers and agriculture. I realize it is a comic strip meant for light-hearted amusement, but I failed to find the humor in the portrayal of producers being ignorant, ill-mannered, and uncouth. It disgusts me that someone would try to discredit such important players in our society. Being an agriculture student, I can testify that producers are far from ignorant and uncouth. It is obvious that many people fail to realize the complexity, stress and hard work that goes into providing your food. However, I will admit some producers are somewhat backwards, but stereotyping them as the whole would be the same as saying any Arabian descendent living in the United States is a terrorist. And we all know how ridiculous that assumption is considering last month's events. The next time you feel like mocking a farmer, remember that he helped produce everything you eat and without his help your high-class society could not exist.
