Students offer advice on
dating

Many are clueless about how to turn a first date
into a second, so students are sharing advice on how to turn dating
woes into dating bliss.
Shala McKinney, a freshman in the School of Agriculture,
believes that spontaneity and thoughtfulness can go a long way on a
date.
McKinney remembers a date who called her out of
nowhere and invited her to a fancy seafood restaurant, even though he
hated the taste of fish.
"He knew I liked seafood and let me eat the seafood
buffet," said McKinney. "That was pretty cool."
Although politeness is a key component on a date,
Brandon Bush, a freshman in the School of Aviation, thinks that romance
can turn an otherwise drab date into an evening one will never forget.
One way to be romantic, according to Bush, is to
take a date on a picnic. He tried it and it worked.
Complete with a view of the water, a picnic basket
and a quilt blanket, Bush and his girlfriend of two years enjoyed sandwiches
his mom made.
But it wasn't only the romance that Bush said made
the date a success; it was the exclusiveness.
"Just dont go out with your friends, 'cause
they're rude and crude, and all they do is hit on her the whole time,"
Bush said.
But sometimes, exclusive dates take a little thought.
Megan Anthofer, a freshman in the School of Agriculture,
said she and her boyfriend often make a simple thing, like walking around
downtown Indianapolis, and make it fancy.
"On every anniversary, (we) get dressed up and
do the canal walk and Circle Center and all the attractions down there;
we do the ice-skating rink and all that kind of stuff," said Anthofer,
who particularly enjoys getting decked out in formal attire for her
dates.
Similarly to Anthofer's date in downtown Indianapolis,
Aaron Wagoner, a freshman in the School of Science, had a successful
date touring attractions.
Wagoner and his date toured Indiana University's
campus.
"We were in high school, so we thought a college
campus was really cool," Wagoner said. "We went to poster places and
just looked at stuff together and went to Starbucks and got Frappuccinos
together."
Considering Wagoner and his date had never been
on a college campus before, he said it made the date special.
"(You just have to) be creative; girls love that,"
Wagoner said.
