Plot development provides
excitement in 'Last
Castle'

When citizens are convicted of crimes, they go
to jail, but when soldiers in the armed services commit crimes, they
go to "The Last Castle."
In a military prison camp run by evil-bad-guy-whom-nobody-likes-because-he-is-corrupt
Col. Winter (James Gandolfini), a newcomer's arrival will soon change
the status quo.
Gen. Irwin (Robert Redford), who is a national
hero admired by the prisoners and guards of "The Castle," is sent to
the prison for disobeying orders.
Irwin's initial goal is to simply complete his
sentence, and then be released to spend time with his grandson (a plot
line which went nowhere).
Irwin sees the way things are run, and being an
ethical and moral man like the rest of the prisoners (which makes me
wonder why they're imprisoned), he grows to hate Winter and realizes
that things must change, i.e. Winter needs to be fired.
Through respect and honor, Irwin gathers the prisoners
and revives them as soldiers to help take over the prison.
The acting in the movie isn't anything spectacular,
but the plot development carries this movie.
Amazing battle scenes that show off the prisoners'
clever tricks such as defeating a helicopter and taking over gun towers
and a water tank without guns are entertaining.
With the climax at the end of the movie and a few
plot twists, this movie manages to come out on top. This movie isn't
likely to win any Oscars, but it is definitely entertaining and worth
seeing.
