Police offer protective
gear

Not all student activities are safe.
For this reason, the Purdue Police Department now
offers reflective vests and flashlights to ensure students' safety when
they are having a march at night or through traffic.
Most of the equipment, however, became worn out
by the end of last semester. That is why the police department and Purdue
Student Government worked together to purchase new equipment this year.
PSG contributed almost $1,000 for the purchase
of the equipment.
Brenda Shea, student body president, said the equipment
is a great benefit to the student organizations.
"You can imagine how many walk/runs there are,
how many concerts," she said.
The equipment is available at the Purdue police
station, 205 South Intramural Drive. Student groups can request the
safety equipment when filling out planning forms for events. Student
organizations can check out the equipment for free,
Available for students are 75 reflective vests,
25 flashlights and 12 handheld traffic signs.
Linda Stump, chief of the Purdue Police Department,
said the equipment is borrowed at least once every two weeks, especially
in the spring and fall when most outdoor activities are planned.
"We are happy to be able to partner with Purdue
Student Government to provide this service to students. Its nice
to work together in a proactive way," she said.
For information on reserving the equipment,
students can contact the Purdue police at 494-8221 or go to www.police.purdue.edu.
