Man dies after truck strikes
utility pole
From Staff Reports
A pickup truck crash and an unrelated car accident
on Tuesday resulted in the death of one person and another in critical
condition.
Howard Buck, 6653 N. Main St., Otterbein, Ind.,
was driving his car westbound on South River Road when it crossed the
centerline for unknown reasons around 4:30 p.m., traveled through the
eastbound lane, veered off the road and hit a utility pole. Buck, 74,
was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Medical Center shortly after the
crash.
After a car accident at 3:51 p.m. Tuesday, two
people were treated and released from Home Hospital while one remains
in critical condition. Witnesses said that a vehicle, driven by Ray
Myers, 20, of Lafayette, crossed the centerline of County Road 800 South
near County Road 125 East and traveled off the road. The car then traveled
up a small embankment and rolled several times, coming to rest in a
field, the witnesses said.
The driver and front seat passenger, Carrie Scott,
19, of Clarks Hill, were ejected from the vehicle. The back seat passenger,
Vivian Scott, 17, exited on her own. None of the occupants were wearing
seat belts.
The driver and passengers were taken to Home Hospital.
At the hospital, Myers said he ran off the roadway after being distracted
by the back seat passenger.
