Hippie-crites should learn to tolerate PrepsLet's get serious now. Mr. Gleason, I'm afraid to tell you that your letter is full of hypocrisies. You write a letter preaching tolerance and acceptance, all the while chastising people like me who gel their hair and try to look decent before heading to class. "Who cares what the person is wearing?" you ask in your letter. It seems as though you are the concerned one here. What's so wrong with being conservative? Why should I be condemned for wearing nice clothes and tucking my shirt in? Maybe it's my "inferior" Midwestern corn-fed Hoosier values that tell me I should make an effort to avoid illegal drugs, comb my hair and take a shower. I am sorry if you have been maligned for smoking weed, but it is illegal and some people tend to take the law pretty seriously. I personally have no problem with it, but I certainly don't expect everyone else to agree with me. Also, being a freshman here, I am curious how you realized this campus was so different from others. Exactly how many other schools have you attended already? I'm sure we don't fit the mold of a more liberal campus as you might have anticipated, i.e. Berkley, but you should have expected as much coming to Indiana. It's a shame that we don't all meet your expectations and follow the new conformity of being "different." If wearing sloppy clothes, being lazy, and doing drugs is how you want to live, kudos to you. I have no problem with the hippies being hippies up until the point when they tell me that the way I live my life is wrong. Maybe you should be the one to relax and accept those of us who are "preps." Chris Foskey Sophomore, School of Technology |
