Freedom not just for conformists anymoreDon't pooh-pooh Tory Fickle's letter. She definitely had a point to make. You dismiss her as childish because you believe conformity translates to maturity. You are part of the problem. The problem is that those who don't conform get nothing but ridicule. We live in the "Land of the Free" and we take pride in America's diversity. But oh, we don't mean THAT kind of diversity. Not homosexuals, sluts, nerds, or "Satan worshipers." For Kevin Fleischmann, Abercrombie was simply bad taste in fashion. For Tory Fickle, it represents something worse. She's not alone. How many girls go bulimic or cut themselves out of frustration in high school? How many guys at your middle school or high school committed suicide? How many wanted to? How many people felt like they had to hide their sexual preferences? These are not trivial things. Anybody who went to high school knows that people were crappy towards one another. To say "It is wrong for children to pick on others, but everybody goes through that as a kid" is weak. Things could have been better. If you reread Kevin Fleischmann's letter, he basically was saying "deal with it, dress like me, turn off your silly music and shut your mouth". Gag!
