Chocolate makers offer sample

Today could bring the dissolution of chocolate lovers citywide.

The Wesley Foundation is hosting its annual Death by Chocolate program, a chance for the public to taste a delectable variety of chocolate sweets. This year's chocolate extravaganza will be held at 7 tonight in the Armory.

"This is the fifth year and we usually have a great turnout. It is a fun time for everyone who attends," said Chip Swartz, the secretary of the Council on Ministries at the Wesley Foundation.

There will be more than 20 local businesses handing out some of the area's best chocolate, but these treats come with a price. Cost is $5 for students and $10 for the general public; tickets will be sold at the door.

Swartz said all those in attendance will receive a plate when they arrive and they are free to sample as much chocolate as they like. The Wesley Foundation encourages people who attend to dress up, but it is not required to get in the door.

For participating businesses, the event is a contest to prove who caters the finest chocolate in town, but for the public it will be a chance for guilt-free sampling. Local businesses aren't the only people encouraged to participate in the program; individuals can also enter their favorite chocolate recipes.

"This year we are emphasizing individuals instead of businesses, but we will still have some awesome door prizes that the businesses sponsor," said Sarah Black, a sophomore in the School of Education and the vice president of the Council on Ministries at the Wesley Foundation.

Black said the event is not only a chance to sample chocolate, but it is a chance to win gift certificates and other various freebies from the businesses in attendance.

Two of the chocolate connoisseurs in attendance will be Ben and Jerry's and MCL Cafeteria.
