The Purdue women's swimming and diving team lost
its inaugural dual meet in the Dorris Z. Holloway pool Thursday night.
Despite the 90.5 to 209.5 loss to Notre Dame, Purdue
women's coach Cathy Wright-Eger said she was thrilled with the Boilers'
performance.
"It's hard to get upset," said Wright-Eger, whose
team's record is now 0-1 in dual meet competition. "We swam outstanding
tonight. We thought we had a shot going into it, but they brought out
the best in us, and thats what competition is all about."
Wright-Eger said the meet was one of the quickest
she has ever been associated with since she's been at Purdue.
Wright-Eger wasn't exaggerating, as both teams
turned in their fastest times so far this season.
One Boiler who swam particularly well was junior
Lisa Dolansky. Her first place time of 55.76 seconds in the 100-yard
backstroke was the fastest she has swum outside of championship level
competition.
"I'm really excited," said Dolansky. "Thats
the fastest I've ever swam in season. I think I have a lot to look forward
to this season."
Wright-Eger was also pleased with Dolansky's performance.
"Lisa Dolansky just swam unbelievable tonight,"
said Wright-Eger. "That time was just incredible."
Another Boilermaker who swam well Thursday night
was junior Lindsay Lange. Finishing first in the 100-yard butterfly,
she joined Dolansky in capturing the second of the Boilers' two victories.
"I feel really strong in the water, and I think
that is a direct result of the hard training we have been doing this
season," said Lange.
Whatever the cause of Lange's success, Wright-Eger
will take it.
"That was just a great time for Lindsay," said
Wright-Eger. "I think we're on the road to a great season."
At four this afternoon, both the Boilers' men's
and women's teams will swim against Miami (Ohio) at the Boilermaker
Aquatic Center.
"We have to prevent a let down," said Wright-Eger.
"We were really geared up for Notre Dame, and a MAC team is always going
to try and beat a Big Ten team. They're the best school in the MAC,
so we have to be ready."
Lange is confident the Boilers will be prepared.
"Having two meets in a row is a challenge, especially
on weeknights, but I think with the way we swam tonight our chances
look good tomorrow," said Dolansky. "We are just excited about getting
to swim in this pool again."
